Baby Ethan!
The other day, Lauyrn and Alex came in and brought their new baby boy, Ethan, for some baby photos. Ethan was so cute, and a lot of fun to take photos of. Here are a few pictures from the session.

Engagement shoots are a special way for a couple to mark their upcoming wedding.
Each couple is different, and a location shoot is a great way to express and capture that unique flavor.
Lisa and Donghwa seemed right at home in the Big Apple. They did justice to the old school flavor of New York City while keeping it fresh and modern with their sense of style. Their fun and light nature was a pleasure to work with and comes through in the latest photo set.
Every story has a beginning…
And a middle…
But this story is only just beginning.
Congratulations Lisa & Donghwa!

Maggie and Ryan recently tied the knot in Alexandria. Old Town provided the perfect backdrop for this fun couple.
Maggie looked amazing in her dress.
Maggie’s mother swelled with emotion.
Dad was also not immune to the sight of his daughter in her dress.
The key to good make-up is versatility. You just never know what will be thrown your way.
Ryan and his boys walked the streets before the ceremony.
The fellas were just heading to where Maggie was waiting.
A candid moment
The Hotel Monaco provided many “fine art” backdrops.
As has been tradition, Ryan’s grandfather stole the show at the reception.
Congratulations Maggie & Ryan!

They say that if you’ve been to one island in the Caribbean, you’ve been to them all. After this weekend’s shoot in St. Thomas, we can confirm that this is 100% not true. However, the Ritz Carlton always meets the high standard they have set for themselves.
Jane was a trooper. Despite all the planning and work that go into a destination wedding, she was all smiles during shoots.
The ceremony took place in a gazebo just above the water, and it was elegant and beautiful.
Gorgeous light was everywhere.
The new bride and groom walked happily through a shower of rose petals after the ceremony.
Jane rocked this stylish hat to perfection on the dance floor.
Peter and his mother enjoy a moment.
When the ties come off, the party officially begins.
While the wedding was in St. Thomas, a bit of New Jersey was undoubtedly in the air. Here the beat is getting beat on the ground.
All out fist-pumping commences! The beat cannot win this battle.
Congratulations to Jane & Peter on your beautiful wedding!

A few months back, a bunch of cool seniors from the Trinity Christian School in Northern Virginia came to the studio to have their portraits taken the Hyon Smith Photography way. Here are some pictures from those sessions:
Alleigh came in for the photographs, but it was also an opportune time for a sibling shot with her brother Luke.
Luke got in some practice for his future senior portraits.
He’ll be ready for Jason Strasburg.
Peter showed his versatility, here sporting a GQ look.
Casual Peter
Chaney’s personality comes through in her senior portraits.
Congratulations to all the seniors!

A few months ago, Janxon and his cousin Isabella (with parents in tow) visited the studio for some pictures.
Janxson loved the camera. And the camera loved him back.
Mom and Dad did alright as well.
Though she required some coaxing, Isabella would not be outdone.
Photographing children and families at various stages is always a pleasure.
Book your session today and create lasting family memories.

A few months back, we had the pleasure of shooting Adrienne and Jason’s wedding at the Inn at Little Washington.
The Inn at Little Washington is not located in Washington, DC but about an hour out in a town called Washington, VA. Confused? Don’t be. Despite being a short trek from DC (which really only adds to its charm), it regularly tops annual lists of best restaurants in the DC area. Their venue for weddings is quaint and has amazing views.

The day had a very classy and intimate feel.
Photographers get younger and younger.
It was an emotion-filled day.
Our friends at the Inn at Little Washington did not disappoint.
With true DC flair and elegance, the wedding cake was decorated in-house with fresh cherry blossoms.
Congratulations Adrienne and Jason!

Two Seater
Our good friends Michelle and Adam recently tied the knot on the island of Jamaica. While location shoots are always fun, a destination wedding provides a great opportunity to capture special images of a special day.

Walk Towards the Light
Infrared photography can turn an ordinary scene into a unique dreamy look. This image is a slightly different composition from the infrared images that we typically shoot, but it was intended to emphasize the contrast between darkness and light.

Groom-Tan-Laundry
An editorial style also provides a different flavor for a bride and groom’s memories of their wedding. Versatility and quick thinking are two keys to successful destination wedding photography.

Bridge of No Return
Beautiful weather, amazing backdrops, and friendly people made this trip to Jamaica a great experience. Many photographers in the wedding industry consider destination weddings to be a perk to the job, but to shoot a destination wedding the right way requires a lot of energy and work. Ya mon!
We look forward to next month’s destination shoot in St. Thomas!
